India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.32%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 2.57% or 81.15 points to trade at 3,236.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) added 1.93% or 52.15 points to end at 2,759.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was up 1.69% or 47.25 points to 2,841.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR), which fell 3.06% or 16.40 points to trade at 519.65 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 2.82% or 14.65 points to end at 504.95 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was down 2.27% or 7.30 points to 314.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 2.39% to 3,229.30, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 1.74% to settle at 2,842.50 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which gained 1.31% to close at 11,611.00.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 3.05% to 519.80 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 1.11% to settle at 1,234.00 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.06% to 816.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1256 to 1196 and 20 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1912 fell and 1877 advanced, while 87 ended unchanged.
Shares in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) rose to all time highs; gaining 1.69% or 47.25 to 2,841.55. Shares in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) rose to all time highs; rising 1.74% or 48.60 to 2,842.50.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.47% to 14.32.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.29% or 7.35 to $2,515.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.71% or 0.50 to hit $70.84 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.47 to trade at $74.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 84.02, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 92.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 101.61.
